To anneal the metal you will need to heat it until it glows dull red colour. Quench it in water as soon as the redness disappears, then place it in pickle and leave it there until all oxidization is gone. Be sure to use only copper tongs in the pickle, any other kind will react with it and leave a surface deposit on your silver pieces (it will electroplate it with copper).
