Australian Opal Necklace

Australian Opal Necklace

This necklace is made with an opalized fossil shell that I got in Sydney Museum shop in April. This was the first piece that was inspired by that trip to Australia. Little sea creatures are pierced and hand engraved.

Squirrel ring

Squirrel ring

This ring is completely hand-made. A sheet of sterling silver is pierced and engraved, then soldered on another sheet of sterling silver. The final shape was cut out and the ring was bent, polished and enameled.

Black Swan shawl-necklace

Black Swan shawl-necklace

The necklace is inspired by the "Black Swan" movie with Natalie Portman. The last dance at the end... with all those feathers... mmm... I instantly wanted a big necklace... very light, 3D and the "feathers" that would move on it.

I needed all the different skills that I accumulated during all these years of making jewellery. There is lots of soldering here, of course. Also: wirework, wire-knitting and beading.

Deer necklace

Deer necklace

This was my first attempt to send a metal piece of jewellery for a jewellery contest. When I saw that Zilberschmuck gallery had a theme "Inspired by Canada", the first thing I thought was "This is my favourite theme!" I have done my best and got an honorable mention for it, together with the membership at the Society of North American Goldsmiths.

The necklace is included into a nice book of designer jewellery. The book is available online. Click here to read more about the book >>>

Virgin Wearable Art Award, 2011

Virgin for Wearable Art Award, 2011

This has been a great opportunity to bring 9 artists (and friends) together to work on a single project. It was hard to know what to expect; each of us has our own creative process and individual style, so it seemed daunting to attempt to bring it all together into one cohesive piece.

Happy Marriage bracelet

Happy Marriage bracelet

There is a Marriage Old Wife Tale that a loss of a wedding ring is an omen of the end of a marriage. My husband lost and found his wedding ring and that gave me an idea for an art project on how to prevent a loss of a wedding ring. A wedding ring needs to be locked to a chain attached to a bracelet. This does not mean that a person is locked into his or her marriage as there is a key attached to the bracelet.

My experimental pendant. Sterling silver and copper.

My experimental pendant. Sterling silver and copper.

It is hard to say now how I have come up with the idea.

When it was done, I thought it was crazy enough for somebody to actually buy it. Arnold Mikelson Festival of Arts was coming... "I will take it with me", - I told my husband. - Nobody will buy it! - he said.

The whole story is described in my blog Click here to read it >>>

Necklace for the Vancouver Fashion Week 2010

Necklace for the Vancouver Fashion Week 2010

It was my second time at the Vancouver Fashion Week. My new collection was devoted to the mystery of a dark forest and how ones imagination interprets these complex mysteries when it is placed in this enigmatic environment.

Owl Ring

Owl Ring

This was my first serious try to do wax carving. The plan was to make birds and animals that you could meet in beautiful British Columbia. I do not know why I started with an owl... (maybe because I liked owls :) I found an exceptionally good picture of a real owl, instantly fell in love with it and did not even try to come up with any other sketches.

When a friend of mine saw the result, she told me: "Wow! it looks like something that Faberge would make!" (that was very kind of her :) Then she added: "Of course, Faberge would have all the feathers engraved, so they would look real"

Of course, being quite proud of the result, I decided to take it one step further and do what "Faberge would have done" :) So, the feathers are engraved now.

It was a brooch originally (like all my other animal pins). I do like it as a ring too.

The ring can be reproduced (that makes the price reasonable). If you are interested in it, you may order it here >>>

Bauhaus necklace

Bauhaus necklace

Bauhaus is an art movement that was popular 1919 to 1933 in Germany. The idea was to bring together arts and mass produced goods that needed to be functional, affordable and good looking. As a result, Bauhaus style was applied mostly to interior design, furniture, industrial design and architecture.

There was a parallel movement Vkhutemas in Russia. It was a larger school, though less known outside of the Soviet Union. The ideas of Bauhaus were so influential, that we can see the results of that study till now days: buildings, furniture and appliances often have Bauhaus design that is very geometrical, simple and modern looking.

Very few pieces of jewellery made in Bauhaus design can be found. Of course, as jewellery design students we needed to get enough inspiration from industrial designs to come up with a piece of wearable art!

Art Deco brooch

Art Deco brooch

This piece of work took me the longest time ever to make. I spent about three months to complete this project. Soldering, pave set stones... all that was nothing (time-wise) compare to how long it took me to saw and file those pieces of wood that needed to fit the space for them exactly.

Light-coloured wood is oak and darker-coloured wood is maple. I was afraid of wood pieces to absorb oils and dust so I coated them with epoxy.

Autumn necklace

Autumn necklace

This necklace is from the story about the Pink Christmas Bracelet.

It is beaded and crocheted. I wanted to have fun and make something unusual, mixed media and mixed techniques. I was slightly bored and eager to entertain myself... The necklace fulfilled my expectations. I was more than satisfied with the result.

Queen of the Golden Forest

Queen of the Golden Forest

This was my last goodbye to the seed beads... a necklace for an international seed bead contest. No wonder has happened... It has not gotten any prizes...
